ATTENDANCE POLICY
By prioritizing attendance and communication, our dancers learn the importance of personal responsibility and respect for their training. We thank you for helping uphold these standards and fostering a strong, supportive studio community!

At Sovereign Ballet, we believe attendance is not just about showing up – it’s about developing responsibility, accountability, and respect for yourself, your peers, and your instructors. Consistent attendance supports your progress, strengthens class unity, and demonstrates your dedication to your art.
ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS
Each Dance level has a set number of required hours per week. Students are expected to attend all assigned classes to maintain technical growth and be eligible for performances and additional opportunities.
COMMUNICATION and ABSENCE PROTOCOL:
Excused vs. Unexcused Absences
- If a student cannot attend class, they must communicate directly through the Parent Portal.
- If a student does not communicate before class, the absence is considered unexcused.
First 2 Missed Classes Without Notice
- Students who miss class without contacting beforehand will receive an email after the first and second incidents. During these first two times, they still can make up the class.
After 2 Unexcused Absences
- Once a student has had two unexcused absences without prior notice, further unexcused absences cannot be made up and will remain permanent absences.
Make-Up Class Options
- If a student has an excused absence, they may choose one of the following make-up options (must be completed in a timely manner or the absence remains on record):
- Attend a lower-level class in the same genre.
- Watch an upper-level class or video in that genre (with teacher approval), write corrections in bullet point format or an essay summarizing what they learned then, submit it to the teacher of the missed class.
- Attend a Saturday morning conditioning class (Please check schedule when it will be posted.) Attend 2 – 30 mins. classes for a 1-hour class makeup, etc.
PARTICIPATION IN A SOLO, DUO, TRIO and EMERGING CHOREOGRAPHY:
- To be eligible to perform in the Elective Dance Showcase Performance in a solo, duo, trio, and Emerging Choreographer piece, students must maintain an 85% – 90% attendance including on-time arrival, to enrolled class.
RECOGNITION and REWARDS:
Performance Recognition
- Students with the best attendance and on-time arrival in each level/weekly hour amount will be announced and presented at the Year End Performances and celebrated publicly. For example, a dancer who takes 2 hours a week will be compared with other dancers that take 2 hours a week.
Exceptional Attendance T-Shirt
- All students who achieve above 85% – 90% attendance and on-time arrival for the school year will receive an exclusive, custom design T-shirt: “I put my best foot forward at Sovereign Ballet.”
