CODE OF CONDUCT

The teachers of Sovereign Ballet have compiled this information in an effort to maintain a safe environment where the love of learning and cultivating the techniques of dance are realized so kids can achieve their goals. We also appreciate any input you may have!

Our goal is not to condemn anyone. However, it’s to help recognize certain behaviors and address the behavior.

We need to know that students can conduct themselves in a friendly and respectful manner when an adult isn’t directly watching them.

CLASS AND REHEARSAL ETIQUETTE

Sovereign Ballet is a place where everyone should feel safe to learn and enjoy the experience of dance. All dancers have strengths and weaknesses and should feel the freedom to express those strengths and improve those weaknesses. Dancers should support each other and never look down on someone who is not at their same level. We all grow and learn at our own pace. Older, more experienced, dancers should keep in mind that the younger dancers look up to them as role models and should behave in a mature, respectful manner that promotes unity among all dancers.

We intend for the students and parents of Sovereign Ballet to strive to have a positive and respectful manner in the development of personal decisions and relationships both inside and outside the classroom.

Sovereign Ballet strives to offer the highest level of dance instruction in a positive, respectful, and caring environment. In order to develop and ensure this environment, we ask all of our students and our parents/caregivers/families to abide by the following rules and expectations.  These guidelines are intended to provide all students and families guidance in their daily settings from the dressing room and dance studio to the theatre.

DANCER CODE OF CONDUCT

  • Dancers must participate within Sovereign Ballet rules and respect all teachers, staff, and volunteers of Sovereign Ballet and the decisions made by them.
  • Dancers should arrive a few minutes early for classes and rehearsals and be prepared to enter the studio space and dance on time.
  • Dancers who arrive late, please be mindful of how to enter class, be inconspicuous as you find a place and begin participating as soon as possible.
  • Dancers should bring water into class to avoid having to leave during class.
  • Dancers must refrain from offensive speech/gestures or cursing anywhere in the studio, including in music played that others can hear.
  • Dancers must respect the instructors and refrain from talking while their teachers are talking or demonstrating. Instead, focus on improving your dance technique and learning the choreography.
  • Dancers (or Parents) must inform instructors before missing class or rehearsal.
  • Dancers must refrain from offering corrections when mistakes are made by other dancers unless they are asked by the instructor to make a comment. It is the instructor’s responsibility to give corrections. There will be no negative comments made by students about other students of any kind. All snickering, remarks, eye rolling, sighs, etc., are disrespectful and disruptive to the dance environment.
  • Dancers must be honest and respectful to those around them, including staff, students, instructors, and those waiting in the lobby.
  • Dancers must refrain from physical, mental, emotional or cyber bullying other dancers, staff, or instructors. This includes social media posts referencing directly or indirectly to a student, staff, studio brand, and/or affiliations to the studio.
  • Dancers are the face of Sovereign Ballet and should conduct themselves in a manner that reflects positively on the organization.
  • When representing Sovereign Ballet outside the studio space, dancers must continue to follow Sovereign Ballet’s code of conduct as they are representatives of our organization.

PARENT/GUARDIAN CODE OF CONDUCT

  • Honesty and integrity are expected and should be demonstrated through example.
  • Parents are encouraged to support their child’s/children’s involvement and help them enjoy the art of dance.
  • Parents must demonstrate respect for dancers, faculty, and staff at all times.
  • If parents have a disagreement with a teacher/faculty member, that disagreement should be brought to the studio director so that a meeting can be set up to address that disagreement rather than posting the aforementioned disagreement publicly. Sovereign Ballet strives to create a studio that meets the needs of all its dancers, including addressing any and all disagreements that may arise in a civil and proactive manner.
  • Parents (or Dancers) must inform instructors before missing class or rehearsal.
  • Parents will not engage in inappropriate conduct towards instructors, staff, other dancers, or families.
  • Parents must discourage challenging and inappropriate conduct towards instructors, staff, other dancers, or families.
  • Parents will refrain from physical, mental, emotional or cyber bullying other dancers, staff, instructors or families. This includes social media posts referencing directly or indirectly to a student, staff, family, studio brand/or affiliations to the studio.
  • Parents must remember that children participate in dance for their own enjoyment.
  • Parents will teach their children respect for other students, teachers and adults and lead by example.
  • Parents will encourage and guide their child to accept responsibility for his/her own performance and behavior.

On the occasion that repeated failure to comply with the Code of Conduct occurs, Sovereign Ballet reserves the right, at its discretion, to dismiss or take disciplinary action on any students or parent/guardian/family member who breach Sovereign Ballet’s code of conduct.

Please remember – It is a privilege to participate in dance classes and performances. One’s behavior must emulate that privilege.

We, at Sovereign Ballet, know that every student and family is more than capable of following these guidelines and that together we can maintain a studio space where everyone is accepted and excited to participate. Our mission has always been to encourage students to chase their love of dance in an environment that is safe and healthy for the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of all involved. We are all learning and growing together to make this space a place we can all proudly tell others we are a part of.

We appreciate your time and attention and look forward to dancing with you.
