The musical/ballet is based on the children’s book, The Quiltmaker’s Gift. It’s a beautiful story, written by Jeff Brumbeau, illustrated by Gail de Marcken, about an old woman who makes quilts only for the homeless or those in great need. The king is very greedy and must have one. The story is so appropriate for Christmas when it is tempting for us to get caught up in “things”, but by the end of the story the king has realized the joy that comes from giving.
