Devotions

  • A group session lead by director/teacher
  • Begins with devotions (applying scripture to everyday life)
  • Anything and everything is open for discussion yet “nothing leaves this room”
  • Talk about pressures at school or peers and learn how other students have managed

Students who choose to participate as a Mentor are required to participate in a training seminar to be qualified. A preliminary conference with the Director for all participants will help to decide on a good personality match between Mentor and Mentee.

Personal Mentoring

  • One on one with:
    • Teacher to Student – (15 – 18 yrs old)
    • Student to Student
      • Mentors are not therapists; parents; nor able to “fix it”
      • Mentor meets with mentee at least once a week
      • Mentor to Mentee Age groupings – age difference should be approximately 2-3 years

Goals for mentoring

  • Offer support
  • Advice
  • Friendship
  • Positive role model

Mentors will encourage Mentees to:

  • Have positive attitudes toward parents, peers and teachers
  • Stay motivated and focused on their dance and academic education
  • Face daily challenges, whether in school or dance, in a positive manor
  • Understand the schedules and expectations of Sovereign Ballet’s programs and performances especially for new or young students
  • Know the most beneficial ways of dance related issues (hair, shoes, costumes, stage make-up, managing homework, etc.)

Measurable Outcomes

  • Questionnaires for Parents and/or participants twice a year
