The Quiltmaker’s Gift
December 7th marks a continued tradition for Sovereign Ballet. We will be performing an original musical/ballet created by Linda Wingerter, playwright, Cheryl Giles, lyricist and composer, Christina Maria Adelhardt and Carrie Frase, choreographers .
The musical/ballet is based on the children’s book, The Quiltmaker’s Gift written by Jeff Brumbeau and Gail De Marcken. It’s a beautiful story about an old woman who makes quilts only for the homeless or those in great need. The king is very greedy and must have one. The story is so appropriate for Christmas when it is tempting for us to get caught up in “things”, but by the end of the story the king has realized the joy that comes from giving.
From the Playwright, Linda Wingerter…
This year we are thrilled to be presenting the Quiltmaker’s Gift for the third time, marking the beginning of a new holiday tradition for the Erie community. You will love the beautiful music and inspiring story uniquely interpreted by this talented group of young people! What better way to celebrate than with this inspirational story about the joy of giving! I want to express gratitude to Cheryl Giles for the beautiful and poignant music/lyrics and to Christina Maria for the playful and creative choreography. I am so honored to be a part of this process!May you be filled with the joy-of-giving this holiday and through the whole year 2019.Linda Wingerter
