*July 1 and 2 Ballet and Variations Madeline Groenendaal, Ballet Magnificat!

Madeline Groenendaal, Ballet Magnificat!, born and raised in Erie, Pennsylvania, received her early training at Lake Erie Ballet and Erie Dance Conservatory. She has attended Pittsburgh Ballet Theater’s summer dance intensive, as well as the Pittsburgh Ballet Theater’s summer choreography program in which she set an original piece titled Violin Concerto Movement 1.   While still in high school, Madeline studied at Mercyhurst University’s Dance Department where she had the opportunity to participate in the Youth American Grand Prix Competition in Chicago, IL.

Upon recognizing her desire to use dance as ministry, she moved to Jackson, MS in the fall of 2011 to attend Ballet Magnificat’s Trainee program under the direction of Cassandra Voborsky. She performed all around the Jackson Metro area and during her second year as a trainee she worked as an office assistant in Ballet Magnificat’s School of the Arts, while also teaching ballet at Luther Branson Elementary School. She has taught dance during her visits home to Erie, PA and overseas in the Dominican Republic through two mission trips that she took through Hispaniola Mountain Ministries.

She graduated from the trainee program May of 2013 and began working at Vertical Church (previously North Ridge Church) and teaching at Ballet Magnificat’s School of the Arts. She is looking forward to teaching at Sovereign Ballet this summer where she can share her love for the Lord through dance with the students.

Linnea Stureson, Giordano Dance Chicago, began her ballet training at Lake Erie Ballet School of Dance in Erie, Pennsylvania under the directorship of Lesley Bories-Scalise.  She was later accepted and hired into the school-affiliated performing dance company. There she had the privilege of performing various roles such as Dew Drop, Snow Queen and Spanish Lead in their rendition of The Nutcracker.  The majority of her ballet training has been an eclectic mixture of Balanchine, Cecchetti and Vaganova techniques.  However, before pursuing a diligent and technically ballet specific training program, Linnea had established strong jazz, tap and modern techniques at various competition and recreational dance studios.  Through her competition years she learned to value and excel in performance expression, artistry, and musicality. Linnea graduated with a Bachelor of the Arts from Mercyhurst University in 2014.  Her expedited experience at Mercyhurst shaped her into a well-rounded, diverse, mature artist with a hunger for knowledge. She looks forward to returning to school and working towards a Master in Fine Arts later in her career.  Currently, Linnea is proud to be a Junior Performing Associate in her first season with Giordano Dance Chicago, the originally American jazz company.  Within her first season, she has had the esteemed pleasure of working with world-renowned choreographers such as: Ray Leeper, Ray Mercer, and Joshua Blake Carter.  In addition to performance and choreography, Linnea is a passionate dance educator and teaches at various schools across the U.S. each year.
